Teachers

@Lokka (she/her) is based in Hilversum and has a passion for rope since early 2021. In that same year, she started her own jam and two years later started teaching. Her teaching focuses a lot on selftying, where in the last two years she has also expanded towards more coupled movement and dynamic floorwork classes.

As a rigger, selftyer, and model, she brings multiple perspectives into her teaching. Her style is mostly improvised, supported by a strong technical foundation.

When tying with a partner, her focus is on the connection. Rope becomes a shared language, a medium through which something intimate and magical can unfold. She ties with someone because she wants to be close with them, the rope is only a means of achieving that. Whether standing as a model or being closer to the floor as a rigger, she enjoys the dynamics that floorwork brings her.

@Rozyl (he/him) started his rope journey early 2022 as a bottom. After learning to appreciate the flow and dynamic of one rope play, he started rigging himself. His style focuses on floorwork with a lot of movement, playing with balance and intimacy. He sees rope as an extension of his body and as a medium to let somebody feel like they are being held.

As partners both in life and in rope, Lokka and Rozyl teach in a dynamic, collaborative way, frequently switching roles to offer multiple perspectives on different techniques they cover. They also share their real-time experiences from the viewpoint of the model, creating a learning environment where both sides of the rope receive attention and value.

Location

The venue is in Hilversum of which you will get the address of once you have bought a ticket. Parking can be a bit hard, as the reviews of the parking garage closest by are not good and better ones are at an 8 minutes walk. Hilversum Station is also 10 minutes away by foot.

When you arrive at the building, the entrance is near the bike parking. The door is locked, so someone will be awaiting you there.

We truly love the space, it has an amazing layout. The downside however is that the space is located at the 5th floor and there is NO LIFT, making the venue quite inaccessible. The spiral staircase has some space to rest in between floors if needed.

The temperature in the space can be a bit hard to manage, so it would be wise to bring both warm and cold clothing. Mats are provided.

For whom

This workshop is intended for those that want to learn or improve their body handling skills. We focus on moving a body whether on our feet or on the ground, using judo-inspired movement and logic, playing with balance and making the tying session about action-reaction.

The content is relevant for both riggers and models. Its broad approach makes the workshop accessible for those who have had a beginner workshop before, but also for offering a fresh perspective on body manipulation for those with more experience.

Because the workshop is strongly influenced by our judo background, expect a lot of movement. We welcome all body types, and no advanced rope skills are required. The rope stays close to one-rope play, keeping the focus on communication through movement rather than complex patterns.

Our style of teaching uses a lot of small exercises which don't give much room for switching. It is allowed, but there won't be enough time for both people to do the exercises, so managing your own time is necessary.

Requirements

  • Being able to communicate your physical abilities and emotional boundaries (r/m);
  • Comfortable moving around on your feet and on the floor (r/m);
  • Comfortable clothing that allow you to move (r/m – preferably snug fitting);
  • At least 2x 8m of rope – preferably jute or hemp (you can buy jute @Ellipsis ropes at the event as well - €50 per 3x 8m – let us know in advance) (r);
  • Fluent execution of a sustainable single column tie (r);
  • Basic understanding of frictions (r);
  • Pre: good rope handling skills (r).

If you have any doubts or questions about whether or not you meet the requirements, please feel free to send a message to @Lokka.

Schedule

For each date this is the schedule:

  • 18:30 Door opens
  • 19:00 Start tuition

  • 22:30 End tuition

At 19:00 the tuition actually starts, so be on time (keeping in mind the stairs). If for whatever reason you’ve been delayed, send @Lokka a message before 19:00 so that we can take this into account.

Content

Besides the topics below, rope handling and safety considerations are deeply integrated throughout the course. Each day we will begin on our feet (standing), and end with floorwork.

Standing

Here, we dive into how movement, timing and connection shape the dynamic. We will be on our feet a lot and we will discuss how you can use your own body to move your tying partner. We’ll also dive into the timing of movement, recognizing the optimal moments to move them and how to play with this moment. We explore how intention sets a mood, how balance decides comfort and how tension in rope can play with intimacy

This part will be about control without much strength, and developing a dialogue through rope that’s filled with play and intent. We will explore:

  • Balance mechanics, off-balancing and tactical control points;
  • Footwork, rotations and stepping patterns that guide or redirect movement;
  • Reading signals and influencing movement through body mechanics;
  • Transitions between standing and floorwork without breaking connection.

Floorwork

This part will be focussed on floor based play. We explore how weight, contact and small shifts in balance shape the dialogue through rope. We will be playing with transitioning through different positions; we look at how closeness, intention and touch influence the way a tying session develops. Rope becomes an extension of this interaction, giving direction, and an extra dimension by supporting choices without overpowering the body.

This course invites you to explore how movements impact the session, and to discover how decisive movement can create clarity and opportunities. We will explore:

  • Playing with balance, weight and pressure;
  • Using your whole body to create a complete presence rather than an isolated set of actions;
  • Creating opportunities through changes in contact, support and intention.

The workshop will be taught in English unless all participants speak Dutch.

Tickets

There are 10 tickets available for this workshop, priced at €250 per couple. There are also supporteR (€300) and supporteD (€200) tickets available. Because of the supporteR tickets, the supporteD tickets are possible. There is an additional service fee of €1,85.
